sketchbooks

sketchbooks are the most important asset in an artist’s studio. sketchbooks represent a safe place for thinking, experimenting, playing and getting to the bottom of things. in many cases, sketchbooks are personal and rarely seen by the outside world. if you’re lucky, an artist will let you peak inside their labyrinth of sketches, paintings, writings and bloopers. Pictured here is a collection of original artworks plus a few master studies using John Singer Sargent’s famous graphite portraits.

  • Don't Be Afraid

Don’t be afraid. Don’t be afraid. This is a phrase I tell myself over and over when approaching art, even in my sketchbook.

  • Modern Escapism

Much of modern life consists of escapism - through media, substances, hustle culture or any other distraction of our age.

  • But Art

Art is where I face myself. Face the truth, and confront all the issues I could otherwise press down and ignore about life.

  • So, I have to be brave

    I can’t be afraid.

  • You can be brave, too.
